There’s nothing like feeling and being prepared in all aspects of your life, especially professionally—it elevates your game 🚀. In my field of production, whether it’s an event 🎊, show 🎭, concert 🎤, coaching session 🗣️, film set 🎬, or video production 🎥, which I am all apart of, it all comes down to prep work.
Think of chefs in the kitchen 🧑🍳. They allocate time for prep because when the fire starts blazing 🔥, everything—all the ingredients—comes together in an organized manner. This makes your job easier, more efficient, and faster.
Preparation builds confidence 💪. When you feel prepared, you walk in with assurance, and we all know the power of confidence. In the production world, we think through every detail: who does what, what goes where, what’s the location. We even create backup plans. We develop a playbook, a strategy—we go in prepared.
Being prepared brings rewards 🎁. It allows you to be more relaxed and less anxious 😰. If a problem arises, your mind is ready to solve it because you’ve already handled the fundamentals. Your brain can shift from planning to problem-solving 💡. In the creative world, this also allows for more creativity. You’ve gotten the boring stuff out of the way, leaving room for innovation.
When you’re prepared, everything runs smoother. You have more fun 🎉 because you’ve left room for it. It doesn’t make sense to wing any task, job, situation, meeting, or production. There’s room for improvisation, but you don’t want to wing the basics. Prepare those and get them out of the way.
Preparation allows you to aim for excellence 🌟. You’ve revised, played out scenarios, and can now flow through your work. Your mental space is better, your attitude more positive. You have more patience 🧘♀️, and everything feels cleaner. Your mind isn’t foggy 🌫️ because you’re not starting from zero—you have a head start.
Think of preparation as giving yourself a head start in a race 🏁. Who wouldn’t want a 100-meter or 200-meter advantage in an 800-meter race? Take the time to give yourself that head start. You’ll finish quicker, more efficiently, with better results, and feel better mentally and physically.
You might think, “I don’t have time to prepare. I’ll get to it when I get to it.” But that’s setting yourself up for failure ❌. You’re stretching out the process, giving yourself more work, and making it harder by winging it from the beginning. Plan how to cross that bridge 🌉 so that when you come to it, you cross faster and more efficiently.
Remember: preparation, preparation, preparation 🔁.
